If you've always liked the idea of a Porsche 911, but you thought it was impractical, the 2019 Porsche Panamera could be the answer you’re looking for. There aren't too many genuine sports cars for sale with the practicality of rear doors and a proper back seat, but that's what you get with the Panamera. That's just for starters though, as the Porsche also offers a wide range of engine options, a fabulous interior, impressively composed performance, and of course, plenty of utility.
There are no less than seven different versions of the 2019 Porsche Panamera in the regular range. The first Porsche for sale in the range is the base Panamera, and then we have the Panamera 4, Panamera 4 Sport Turismo, Panamera 4 Exclusive, Panamera 4S, Panamera 4S Sport Turismo, and the Panamera 4S Executive. The base Panamera is classic rear-wheel drive, but the rest of the range is exclusively four-wheel drive.
Under the hood of the base Panamera and the all-wheel-drive Panamera 4 is a 3.0-liter V6 that develops 330 horsepower and 331 lb-ft of torque. The 2019 Porsche Panamera 4S models get a 2.9-liter V6 twin-turbo, which puts 440 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque at the Porsche's disposal. The 3.0-liter engine can get the all-wheel-drive Panamera 4 from zero to 60 mph in as little as 5.0 seconds, and with the optional Sport Chrono package the twin-turbo engine can get that down to just 4.0 seconds in Panamera S models.
This year, there's also a Panamera GTS that adds a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 to the Panamera lineup. This unit is more powerful than the last similarly configured engine from Porsche, and it's now rated at 453 hp and 457 lb-ft of torque.
The ultimate Panamera is called the Panamera Turbo, even though all the other models are turbocharged too. This one has the twin-turbo V8 tuned to deliver 550 hp and 567 lb-ft of torque, and this one gets the zero to 60 mph time down to 3.2 seconds.
It might be tough to find a completely base Panamera at a dealership, but if you can it's not exactly lacking in standard features. The base 2019 Porsche Panamera includes 19-inch alloy wheels, partial leather upholstery, satellite navigation, and an infotainment system with Apple CarPlay compatibility.
The chances are any model at a dealership will have at least one of three option packages. These include the Premium Package with keyless ignition, blind-spot monitors, extra power adjustment to the front seats with driver’s side memory and a Bose audio system. There's also an Assistance Package that adds an advanced adaptive cruise control system that uses the navigation system to monitor the road ahead for more than one mile, active lane control and night vision.
Standard safety equipment includes forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking, while optional equipment included active lane control, adaptive cruise control and automatic parking assistance. Also available is the Night Vision Assistant, a technology that can see pedestrians and animals using a thermal imaging camera that alerts the driver of their presence.
